Have you changed the recipe for Innkeeper's 8 Grain bread and/or Innkeeper's Apple Strudel bread?

8 Grain BreadWe've moved East coast production of the Innkeeper's 8 Grain & Innkeeper's Apple Strudel bread to a different facility. Prior to this move, the product was baked in Canada and shipped in for East coast distribution.( For more information about where our products are produced please see http://bread.com/faq#n189 ). The new bakery is using a different production method which may account for a difference in taste and mouth-feel. This was in no way a cost cutting move, rather we were hoping to gain better consistency from the finished product. We have been made aware of some issues regarding the breads coming from the new bakery and are working with the bakery to correct these issues. This does not effect Innkeeper's bread on the West coast.

No effect on West Coast?

I just purchased Innkeeper's 8 Grain at my local Costco and it is horrible. Right away I noticed it was different. It is so dry, that it splits apart when trying to remove it from the bag. It falls apart when the boys try to take their sandwich out of their lunch bag. What a bummer. We won't be buying any of the products again. It's too bad, I always enjoyed all of your products.

I hate when recipes are

I hate when recipes are changed. It means that I need to find another product. And it's rather difficult. Kind regards F

InnKeepers Bread Original Recipe

Will the company put out any notification once the problem has been corrected? Or, is this the new Innkeeper's Bread for the long term? I hate to see this bread no longer be an option for me. Thanks for your response on this.

Innkeepers recipe

We've had a tech service professional working with the new bakery in order to resolve these issues. Our office is receiving regular bake samples for testing purposes. Several consumers have volunteered to help with this process as well and we're gaining valuable feedback from them. Vast improvements have been made to the 8 Grain variety though this particular bakery is not set up with an inner-wrap machine. The purpose of inner-wrapping breads products is for keeping a loose topping in place. We are aware there is a perception that this process is for freshness. Freshness has more to do with moisture & pH levels and not the number of times a bread is wrapped. We appreciate all the feedback we've received and please know we are working very hard to bring the Innkeeper's breads back to the standards you expect. As always thanks for your support.

Innkeeper's 8 Grain bread

Is there anything more forthcoming from the company regarding the changes made to the once good Innkeeper's bread? Has any progress been made with the new bakery? Until the bread returns to its original formula, I think you will find many loyal customers going elsewhere due to the fact that this new formula is not even palatable.

New InnKeeper's Bread is awful

Too bad you guys changed a good thing. I loved the old bread. I am giving my new loaves to the birds and squirrels. Please let me know if you ever go back to the old recipe.

Inkeeper's 8 Grain bread recipe change

We've been buying several loaves of this formerly wonderful bread for 7 years and are SHOCKED and DISAPPOINTED in the recent recipe change. You insult our collective intelligence to claim that the recipe hasn't changed! Anyone can see and taste that the nut/seed mixture has been reduced by at least 2/3's. The old recipe listed 5 grams of fiber, but the new recipe lists only 3. DID YOU THINK THE CONSUMER WOULDN'T NOTICE??? Considering your bread now has the consistency of moist saw dust, a bland, unhappy flavor, and seriously diminished nutritional value, I can think of no rational reason to continue purchasing this product. WHAT WERE YOU PEOPLE THINKING??? WERE YOU THINKING!!??? PLEASE RESTORE THE FORMER RECIPE AND PRODUCTION METHOD.

The Bread Has Changed

I thought I was alone in the disappointment over the changes in your previously wonderful Inkeeper's 8 Grain bread. The texture and color are all wrong. When toasted, it now has a sandpapery feel on the tongue. The coaresly ground grains and robust taste are gone. It's turned into a Wonder Bread wannabe. Please, please fix whatever has gone wrong: fire the new baker; check your specification document; send the Canada-baked bread to the East again. Whatever it takes.

The Bread Has Changed for the worse

For years we have been buying about 2 loaves a week of this bread and I to am very disappointed in this change. At first I thought the bread had gone bad, but a second loaf was the same. This was my favorite bread in the whole world but now it tastes like %&#*@. Please go back to the original recipe.

Changed ! ? ... the Innkeeper 8 Grain Bread was ruined !

My dissapointment goes beyond the obvious complaint that the bread recipe has 'changed' to ruin what was once a fantastic bread... our family now has to reluctantly consume the 4 loaves we recently purchased at COSTCO. Let me know if you ever get it right again. Until then good luck and good bye.

Inkeepers * Grain

I also was very disappointed with my last loaf. Something in the recipe and production method has definitely changed. I will be thinking twice about buying another loaf until I can get some assurance that I am buying the bread that I have learned to love over the last 2 years.

Innkeeper's 8 Grain Bread -- too good to last...

I also have to say how disappointed my family and I were with the last loaves we bought. Which, by the way, we always bought two at a time cause we went through it so fast! When the inner bag disappeared so did the rich, moist, slightly dark texture and flavor. This was our absolute fav bread and has been for years. Nothing else out there even compares. This is a terrible thing to happen to such a great bread. Sadly, I will not buy anymore until the original recipe returns. Until then I'll be desperately searching for something new :o(

Quality of your 8 Grain Bread

The above changes I just read about have destroyed a very good bread. It tastes nothing like the original quality product you were making. I'm sure, if you don't reestablish the old flavor and texture, your customer base will dwindle quickly with this new product.

Bread Quality

Thank you for your response to my comments. This morning I took the three loaves of 8 Grain Bread back to Costco in Gaithersburg, MD for refund. I then checked the shelves to see your bread in stock. It was all that light, single-bagged bread we had gotten before. Hopefully you will rectify this situation soon because I would like to return to buying your product, but not until that stuff is gone.

That is a big concern

This was not intended and our tech service personnel are working with the new bakery to rectify the issue. Thanks for the comment.
