substitute

If you want a really healthy and great tasting bread to replace the former inkeepers brand that used to be good- go for the Kirkland Signature Multi Grain or wheat bread! It is loaded with whole grains - not enriched, sea salt instead of processed salt, evaporated cane juice instead of refined sugar - the list goes on and on. This is by far the most superior quality bread on the market.

Innkeeper's formula change

I have to agree with all the other comments here about the huge disappointment of such a noticeable change for the worse in the Innkeeper's Bed & Breakfast loaf. To confirm my point, I never mentioned anything to my kids and they suddenly were coming home with half-eaten sandwiches saying they didn't like it. They won't eat it as toast anymore either, I finally had to start buying different bread (none that is as good as the old Innkeepers, but at least not as objectionable). Another point I noticed happened just yesterday. There is a major snow storm expected here on the East coast. I went to Costco yesterday (as did most everyone in our area) and they were COMPLETELY out of all other bread EXCEPT the Innkeepers. I used to have to worry about it running out, now I don't even have to during a snow storm. It is such a shame, we used to love it...please bring the old formula back!!

Innkeepers 8 grain bread

I've added my disappointment to the other forums you have, but I will also add one to this one as well. I was an Innkeepers fan for several years and would buy nothing else, until this Fall when everything changed. The bread turned from the best in the business to the worst!! It's a poor substitute for white Wonder Bread now. The flavor is gone. The texture is gone. And the freshness is gone. To say that "nothing has changed", as you have said, is an insult to anyone's intelligence. With that said, if you do change back to the original recipe and way of baking and packaging the bread, let us know and we'll come running back.

Enriched Flour??

Wow- I was shocked to see such a seemingly healthy bread contain enriched flour! The bag is covered with healthful claims yet contains stripped down ingredients. Enriched flour is flour in which most of the natural vitamins and minerals have been extracted. When the bran and the germ (the parts of the wheat that contain vitamins and minerals) are removed, your body absorbs wheat differently. Instead of being a slow, steady process through which you get steady bursts of energy, your body breaks down enriched flour too quickly, flooding the blood stream with too much sugar at once. Your body then has to work hard to absorb the excess and stores it as fat. This causes quick highs and lows in your blood-sugar level which can lead to type-two diabetes and obesity. All this and you’re not even getting close to the amount of nutrients that whole grains contain. I guess I am so surprised because we are usually pretty aware of this and I dont recall seeing that ingredient previously. My mistake I guess. We are definately done with Innkeepers!

8 Grain Bread now in single plastic bag...

I've been buying Innkeeper's 8 Grain Bread for some years at Costco and it has always had an inner plastic bag and an outside bag. Two or three months ago the bread started showing up packed in only one plastic bag and the bread was not as fresh as it had been in the past. I've been hard pressed to find a good fresh loaf on the shelf at Costco. On a couple of occasions, I ended up buying the Kirkland multigrain bread or Roman Meal. I've really liked the Innkeeper's bread, but I'm not going to pay the premium price for bread that is stale before I buy it. I will have to go with Kirkland or Roman Meal if nothing changes.

Innkeepers 8 grain bread - WHY???????

I discovered this bread at COSTCO and for a die hard former white bread lover like myself. I tried this and chose to eat this bread exclusively. I usually purchase a loaf and freeze individual slices. I recently purchased a new loaf at COSTCO. What dove me to your web site was that I noticed the packging was different, it even felt different when I picked it up to place in my cart. I thought to myself they have changed this - why? I totally agree with other posts that it tastes markedly different - not better. At this point I am inclied to try other multigrain breads, the new recipe does not make me want to drive to COSTCO to continue purchasing Innkeepers. Please reconsider your decision. For all the persons who have taken the time to respond to your website there are probably many others who have simply decided to no longer purchase the product.

Sad about recipe change

I agree with Bill below. It's so hard to find a great bread. Why did you have to change such a wonderful bread. I joined costco for the single reason of wanting to buy your bread. I was SOOOOO disappointed in the change. PLEASE reconsider!!!! Thanks, Kristin

What the heck happened to the Innkeeper recipe !!! ???

My family's very long time love affair for this brand (its the only one we buy) is sadly, over. I hope others realize someone took the wonderfully tasting Innkeeper bread and ruined it - I can't imagine they had a good reason nor did it for profit or other reasons. Please communicate to the person(s) responsible that our family hopes they come to their senses and return to the original recipe. Until then, goodbye Innkeeper....thanks for all the delicious memories. Bil in Virginia

Innkeepers 8 Grain Bread

I discovered Inkeepers 8 Grain at a Costco in Springfield, Mass. when an elderly lady suddenly bumped me aside as I was standing in front of the bread rack, reading labels on different whole grain breads, pondering which one to buy. She shouted to her husband, "Honey, look, they have some!", as she grabbed 4 three pound loaves and chucked them in her cart. She turned to me and apologized for pushing in. She said, "I'm sorry, but we come all the way down from Vermont to buy this bread, and last time the store was out, so we need to stock up. This is the best bread I have ever had in my life! If you are looking for a whole grain bread, don't look any further, buy the 8 Grain!" So, I did, and for the last 2 years I have enjoyed every bite of the many loaves I have eaten, and have not had a single thought of trying a different kind of bread, until my last loaf, purchased a week ago. As soon as I got home and opened it, I knew something was different. It didn't have that rich, yeasty smell, the slices were thicker, which I don't like at all. Two slices are too thick for a sandwich made with such a substantial bread. Plus, the grain mixture seems to have changed, it seems to have more of a small hard seed that makes me worry about breaking a tooth. What has happened? What have you done? Please give us our favorite bread back the way it was!
