What bread will mold the fastest, white or wheat?

Send by emailPDF versionYou can't just say that white or wheat bread molds the fastest. Molding time depends on many factors. Two items which contribute to mold are moisture content of the bread and if "mold inhibitors" or "preservatives" are in the bread. No one can tell this

There is no way that anyone can tell you which will mold the fastest since we don't know all the variables, like moisture, the formulation of the bread, the quality of the ingredients or the conditions under which they were produced. In the U.S., all breads could have preservatives. And white bread is a wheat bread.

This makes sense

I've never done any mold testing before, but it certainly makes sense that mold inhibitors and preservatives would have more to do with mold growth than the kind of bread the mold is growing on.

bread facts

Assuming a sandwich was eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it would take 168 days to eat the amount of bread produced from one bushel of wheat. A family of four could live 10 years off the bread produced by one acre of wheat.
